Now that I have gone through 4 toddlers daily washings, it has occured to me that I have learned something about the hair washing aspect. My first 2 boys hated their hair being washed in the beginning. I started asking friends for help and realized I was not alone in the battle. So we tried different things. What I finally found I am sharing with you, I hope this gives someone else some help.
1. Call hair washing something else. We call it a hair shower. This seems to work for my kids. As soon as you say "let's wash your hair" the screaming begins. Make up some silly name for it.
2. Give them a water shield. A washcloth, towel or something else to hold over their eyes. Make up a name for this "shield".
3. Get their hair wet with your hand. This causes much less water in the face and eyes.
4. Put shampoo on your hand. Make sure you use tearless. Lather up.
5. Let them play in the bubbles in their hair. My kids use the bubbles to make splats on the tub walls.
6. Have them place "shield" over their eyes. Use a sponge to rinse hair. It holds lots of water. If you use a half squeezed sponge you tend not to get to much water in the eyes and on the face. It usually only takes 3 to 4 wipes with the sponge to get the soap out.
7. Jump up and down. You just had a tear free, scream free hair washing!!
