Repro Sears
This 1908 Sears and Roebuck Catalog Number 117 Is a Famous Copy. Sellers will INSIST that their own copy is real even after you point out the word REPLICA on the cover. This is a Picture of the replica, It says edited by Joseph Schroeder on the bottom right. This Catalog really IS NOT a True replica. It is HEAVILY EDITED with only 700 pages or so, not the over 1,100 of the original Catalog! Then the Seller seems to ALWAYS put in the listing "Over 1,100 Pages"!Sellers don't even flip through it to see the page numbers jump two or three at a time. The cover shown IS NOT a facsimile of the genuine cover! It does not exactly match ANY cover from the time period. It is obviously created to secure a copyright on it's appearance. It has elements of three different covers. The Book Publisher likely was dealing with three different issues with damaged covers. They may also claim copyright on the assortment and order of the interior pages as well. The Cover Colors Don't match any Sears Catalog.(Attention All the Sellers that Scanned The Copy and are potentially a copyright infringement problem) Adding to the confusion, I have two different original number 117 Sears Catalogs Below Pictured, The YELLOW and GREEN one on the left has a 1907 Copyright Notice. The Second 117 catalog which has a cover more similar in design to the reproduction is dated Copyright 1908. You need to go by the copyright notice on the inside bottom cover.Original copies ALWAYS have PINK PAGES in the center between 1900 and 1912 or so.Number 117 1907.........Number 117 from 1908....I Also believe that Some Pages and Cover Design Elements on the modern copies were "Borrowed" from Numbers 115 ( Dated 1905) and 116 ( Dated 1906) BELOW( They look A LOT alike!!, except for the number on the cover. Lots of interior changes)115 from 1905 ....................116 from 1906The 1960's Reproduction of the 1906 catalog is shown below. It lacks the white border around the front and also lacks the pink pages inside. The copy has 1906 on the cover very clearly in the bottom center. ACTUAL Sears catalogs did NOT prominently date their catalogs on the cover for several more years. This is OFTEN offered on okay as the Real McCoy.The Genuine Sears number 118 , shown below, ALSO dated 1908 has a totally different cover design than the previous 3 years.I have over 1,000 different Sears and Roebuck Catalogs. They made Supplements, Sale Catalogs, Christmas Catalogs, Automotive, Paints, Wallpaper, Roofing and Fencing, Sports, Boating, Motor Car Accessories, School Supplies, Taxidermist Supplies, Fencing, Homes...MANY More!!! There are at least 40 different reproductions causing A LOT of confusion on okay. I'm going to write a Guide for Each, gepared with the Genuine Antique Catalog.I have over 750,000 catalogs in my collection. I have almost every issue of over 1,200 titles. Sears, Montgomery Wards, Speigel, JCPenney...You Name it!!
