DIE CUTS 101 You may think using die cuts in your scrapbook is too expensive... With the right sources and some careful planning, you can really cut the cost of your next project.
Die cuts can cost a lot if you buy them ready made at your local scrapbook store. However, many stores will let you use their gemercial grade die cut machines for FREE if you buy your paper from them. Instead of 50 - 75 cents per item, you might be able to get 6-8 die cuts out of one 29 cent sheet of paper! While you may not need 6 or 8 of each shape, you might be able to trade them for other things at your next crop.
If you're working on a particular layout - let's say for Baby girls - Buy a sheet ofcardstock. Then,cut several differentshapes, like a lamb, baby bottle, cloud, bib, etc., out ofthat onesheet to make a coordinated layout.
Die cuts can begee journaling boxes, too! Of course, some shapesare easier to use asjournaling boxes. A large firetruck would make a cute journaling box for a boys birthday party. Smaller die cuts, like balloons, could be used individually to show a babys' name, birthdate, weight, etc.
There are even die cuts thatfold into small gift boxes. Thesecan work outgreat as party favors, to hold mints or nuts, or as placecards fora wedding reception.
If you're into handmade cards, you can sometimes find card dies with cut out shapes on the front. You can turn these into shaker box cards, or attach a photo to personalize the card even more.
The possibilities are endless! Spend a few minutes checking out your local scrapbook store to see if they have die cuts you can use. It could open up a whole new look for your next project!
